Toronto Blue Jays Secure World Series Matchup Versus defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team advanced to their initial World Series after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the final seventh game of the AL Championship Series.

Trailing 3-1, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, Toronto, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "It's truly an incredible feeling."

George Springer has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, placing him third on the list trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot besides him with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's painful" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but commended their work throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he continued.

The Blue Jays secured the championship on both previous visits in the early 90s, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
