The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this endearing family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
