The Merseyside club Refuses to Alter Attacking Style Amid Poor Run of Form, Insists Arne Slot
The Dutch manager has revealed that the club's hierarchy agree with his assessment regarding the poor performance streak and he will not abandon their forward-thinking philosophy in search of a solution. The head coach acknowledged that six losses in seven outings was below standard ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Increasing Scrutiny During Tough Spell
The manager acknowledged the expectations were high before his altered lineup were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. However, he maintained that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or executive leadership following a substantial investment of almost £450m.
"Our views align," stated Slot, whose squad will encounter Real Madrid in the continental tournament and visit the Citizens in the domestic competition.
Squad Quality Continues Undoubted
Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are completely available and completely set for the programme we are facing". He said that the summer investment in footballers like the German international and the forward, who is likely to miss out again against Villa through injury, had left the club "in a strong situation for the near future and the long-term future".
Gelling Difficulties
When pressed on why his team were struggling to integrate, he responded: "That's not particularly helpful. 'What's causing this?' I give an explanation and people say I'm offering alibis. I can identify several explanations why we are struggling for victories or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are inadequate reasons to have a run of form as we had now."
- Regardless of whether I could come up with 200 excuses
- As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
- The reality is six out of seven
Defensive Statistics
Only Burnley (21) have conceded more clear opportunities from normal situations this season than the Merseysiders (nineteen). The first-place team, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet the manager disputes the team has been overly exposed and claims there is no basis to abandon offensive philosophy for a defensive approach after ten fixtures without a goalless performance.
"I don't see us allowing many opportunities so I don't see a reason to modify our philosophy completely but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he stated.
Particular Cases
"Versus the Red Devils, how many chances did we concede? Against Eintracht Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we barely allowed a shot on target. In every match we played until now we haven't conceded a lot of chances. Not at all. We do allow a bit more than the prior term but that stems from us being behind early so you play more openly. But in general I don't think that our issue is that we concede too many chances. Our issue is we don't score the chances we create."
