Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of backing from above,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “Through standard discussions I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase like this with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we'll continue to battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
