Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early names under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolves.
Pereira was dismissed on Sunday after the squad's 10-match winless beginning to the Premier League season.
And both candidates - both of who have previous links to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.
The manager is currently at another club, which would pose a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.
However the former Luton manager - who played more than 100 of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the position.
The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of appointing a new head coach.
O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by Wolves in December last year.
The former West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
