Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only seven months following leading insulting songs directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds concluded by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds included starting abusive songs regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' promotion party this spring. Now, the former England player will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to pull the team he loves away from the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder

The pair had previous conflict before Leeds won promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

Everything seems has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his playing days.

The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and respected him calling me.

“We had 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Struggles

The forward featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season but the former Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
