Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
