Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
