Accused Harasser Asked: 'But What If I Am Madeleine?'
A individual accused with harassing Kate McCann allegedly left her a recorded message which questioned: "suppose I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has consistently claimed she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are on trial indicted with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal was told phone records and information recovered from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported investigations and remains open.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
A separate recorded message, played in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I understand I'm fat and plain like Madeleine was, but I know what I feel."
While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "What if there is a small chance that I am Madeleine? What then? Is that not significant for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.
The tribunal was informed that by means of electronic messages, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "flashbacks" from a childhood with the McCanns.
The investigator, an investigator with Leicestershire Police who compiled the evidence, told the court there "didn't appear to be any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also communicated with close associates of the McCanns, as per the call data.
On October 9th, 2024, the father answered a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."
That day Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will continue and I plan to establish my claim."
The court learned Mrs Spragg established a connection online with Ms Wandelt preceding assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in the county in December 2024.
Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had contacted using messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be taken seriously in the time preceding the visit to that location, Leicestershire, in that winter.
The court heard correspondence between the two defendants, in that autumn, planning trying to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from cutlery at a eating establishment.
"We must assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the appearance to their house, Mrs Spragg sent a text which expressed: "We find ourselves positioned outside the McCanns' residence with our lights out similar to investigators. I wanted to accomplish this with another person I hadn't anticipated I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The case proceeds.
