A Ton of Anime Updates Arrived Over the Festive Season

The winter break offer a plethora of pursuits far superior than catching up on the headlines: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on festive fare, and using meditation skills to not arguing with loved ones. Hopefully you managed to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items surfaced over the festive period, and if you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Truly the biggest announcement, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt more episodes. The show will return with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have labeled it season 4. Adding to the surprise, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. However, the promotional image for the second cour is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been going on for some time, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio famous for the artistic merit of its projects, Science Saru has given us hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a distinctly fresh and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
