An Patriotic Design and Familiar Logo

The updated livery features a Union Flag-inspired design to mirror the national flag and will be rolled out on rolling stock, at railway stations, and across its digital platforms.

Notably, the symbol is the distinctive twin-arrow logo historically used by the national rail network and previously designed in the 1960s for the former state operator.

The Introduction Plan

The rollout of the branding, which was created in-house, is expected to take place gradually.

Commuters are scheduled to begin spotting the newly-branded trains across the network from the coming spring.

Throughout the month of December, the design will be showcased at key stations, including Birmingham New Street.

A Journey to Public Ownership

The proposed law, which will allow the formation of GBR, is currently progressing through the Parliament.

The administration has stated it is renationalising the railways so the system is "run by the public, delivering for the public, not for private shareholders."

Great British Railways will unify the running of passenger trains and infrastructure under a single organisation.

The government has said it will combine seventeen different organisations and "reduce the problematic bureaucracy and poor accountability that has long affected the railways."

App-Based Services and Existing Ownership

The launch of GBR will also involve a dedicated mobile application, which will enable customers to see train times and reserve tickets without surcharges.

Passengers with disabilities passengers will also be have the option to use the app to arrange help.

Several operators had earlier been taken into public control under the former government, such as TPE.

There are currently 7 operating companies already in state ownership, covering about a third of passenger trips.

In the past year, c2c have been nationalised, with more anticipated to be added in 2026.

Ministerial and Industry Response

"The new design is more than a new logo," said the relevant minister. It represents "a transformed service, shedding the problems of the previous system and concentrated entirely on offering a proper public service."

Rail leaders have responded positively to the government's commitment to improving services.

"We will continue to collaborate with industry partners to support a successful handover to Great British Railways," a senior figure noted.
